Today, AGC announces Low-Carbon Pyrobel fire-resistant glass with significantly lower indirect CO2 emissions

To meet growing market demand and reduce the environmental impact of its production processes, AGC Glass Europe launched its Low-Carbon Glass in 2022. Today, we are proud to announce Low-Carbon fire-resistant glass: Low-Carbon Pyrobel with significantly less indirect CO2*.

To reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the production of Low-Carbon Pyrobel, a total chain approach is used. Low-Carbon Glass consists of over 50% of recycled glass**, In addition, this glass is produced with sustainably extracted raw materials in highly efficient melting furnaces with electroboosting and renewable energy. Moreover, transport between Group sites has been optimized for the benefit of finishing processes.

Low-Carbon Pyrobel offers the same aesthetics, quality, technical performance and fire-resistant properties as our standard Pyrobel products.

Sustainable construction with EPD-certified products

AGC has a large product portfolio with third-party validated Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). Pyrobel's environmental performance can be found in a 2018 independently validated EPD. Pyrobel scores superior in terms of global warming potential. For example, the indirect CO2 of Pyrobel 16 is 60.5 kg CO2 eq/m², while that of Pyrobel 25 is 98.1 kg CO2 eq/m².

Henceforth, Low-Carbon Pyrobel combines the performance of AGC's Low-Carbon Glass (validated EPD issued in May 2024), the use of green electricity and the optimization of the production process to achieve a reduction of 45 to 50% of indirect CO2 compared to standard Pyrobel products. Issuance of the validated EPD for Low-Carbon Pyrobel will take place within a few months of the independent validation.
