In this cozy villa in Uden, you have contact with the outdoor environment from every room. This is precisely why Lenz Architects chose to locate it right in the middle of the plot. In a concept where the boundaries between front and back are somewhat blurred, as a visitor you are still intuitively led to the front door. And that's where the aluminum cladding, including mysterious lighting, is for something in between.
To make maximum use of the beautiful location and the spacious plot, the client and architect decided together to demolish the existing house and erect a new building in the middle of the plot. This creates a garden in the front as well as in the back. The main volume, with a saddle roof and a flat extension, uses a simple formal language. Architect Tim Robben: "That left room to make an architectural difference in a different way. In the interior, the floating staircase leading over the kitchen immediately draws attention. It adds a creative touch to the clean but cozy interior."
That sleek character with a playful touch was also reflected by Lenz Architects on the façade. The search for a sustainable alternative to a wooden facade led to Linarte. "We were pleasantly surprised at the possibilities of this system," recalls the architect. "The client was also immediately enthusiastic. They gladly freed up extra budget for it within the overall financial picture because they saw the added value."
The dark facade surface intrigues and attracts attention. "The rhythm of randomness creates a beautiful effect," describes Tim. "From an aesthetic point of view, we decided to use the Even profile. It allowed for a subtle and slim design." The cladding perfectly matches the exterior joinery. For example, on the end wall of barely 1.5 meters, an interior door is covered with the aluminum profiles. The fact that you can barely see them is precisely Linarte's strength.
The deep black color of the aluminum façade surface creates a captivating contrast with the white villa. The wooden inserts and the seemingly randomly positioned LED lines accentuate that dialogue. "It was soon clear that we wanted to make the most of Linarte's ample architectural possibilities here. We worked the house number in with wooden inserts and added lighting, which should above all excite people and attract attention. Meanwhile, we can say with complete conviction that that mission has succeeded."
