On the waterfront in Amsterdam, a special house has been erected, making optimal use of the relatively small plot. Evelien Rodenburg (tailorD Architecture), together with Martin van Kampenhout Msc of MvK Architect, is responsible for the architectural and technical elaboration. Because of its natural character, SVK's unique Puro Plus fiber cement cladding was chosen and applied in a special way. The end result? A beautiful voluminous house in a fantastic location with a beautiful appearance.
The architectural concept of the house is a straight concrete box opened up on the garden and water sides. The use of "simple" materials that meet each other in an abstract way has created a particularly beautifully character-designed home. The clients have been closely involved in every phase of the design process, with their preferences and wishes being made clear each time. This gave them a great deal of control and input into the creation of their dream home.
After the volume and layout of the house had been determined, it was the turn of the facades. The clients had a certain style in mind and during the design process it was made very clear what these wishes would mean for the appearance of the house in terms of look and feel. As a result, they chose Puro Plus cladding with conviction. The architects worked with very clean lines with minimal transitions. No frames are visible from the inside because the supporting structure is integrated with the facade. The blinds are also particularly well concealed.
Thomas Bossuyt, commercial director at SVK: "The Puro Plus fiber cement cladding panel achieved the natural look that architects and clients had in mind. The architect already knew us from previous projects and was familiar with our range of products, their advantages and the color palette of Ornimat and Decoboard. But for the client, the Puro Plus board really stood out because of its natural character." Bossuyt explains that the Puro Plus is a natural gray slab, with a unique lightly sanded surface that beautifully reflects the impact of nature. "Because the boards have no coating, a very natural play of colors of shades of gray is created, especially under changing weather conditions. Moreover, each slab is unique, which adds even more to the natural look."
The fiber cement façade panel is only 8mm thick and is much more favorable in terms of price than if a natural stone were used as a façade product. Another additional advantage, according to Bossuyt is that the material ensures that everything can be processed super tightly. "For example, the Puro Plus fiber cement siding is beautifully combined with door and window openings. The storage door and bathroom window, fitted with the Puro Plus fiber cement board are combined with recessed hardware so that they blend into the facade. The house number is also milled into the gable plate. All aesthetic and functional advantages of our Puro Plus slab,: continues Bossuyt. "The dimensions of our plates allow the architect to apply quite large dimensions and the plate has minimal impact. Also, the fact that the slabs can easily be cut to the millimeter is an advantage in terms of architectural freedom."
In terms of durability, you can't really have a more natural board than Puro Plus: not only in terms of appearance, but also because it contains no chemical or plastic. Besides being durable, the Puro Plus board is also fireproof (fire resistance class A2s1d0). Puro Plus can be mounted in various ways. "In this project, bonding was chosen in order to achieve a screw-free construction and aesthetically one piece," Bossuyt says, concluding, "The intersecting horizontal and vertical glass strip on the street side is fitted with an LED light line and combined with our natural Puro Plus fiber cement cladding panels, this ensures that the façade also looks fantastic in the dark."
