Adding value to any building
Sun protection specialist Renson and aluminum system house Kawneer have joined forces for a unique solution. The AA 100 Fixscreen Minimal allows exterior sun protection to be aesthetically integrated into a curtain wall.
An aluminum curtain wall consists of glass, lots of glass. These large amounts draw in lots of natural daylight and guarantee unobstructed views to the outside. Elements that are important for a healthy, comfortable and productive indoor environment. But without proper measures, there is a high risk of overheating. Exterior blinds are a proven effective and aesthetic product to block heat and help control indoor temperatures.
Often blinds are retrofitted. Then the fixing of the blinds to the facade is highly dependent on the installation method. For a robust and reliable fixing of the blinds to the facade, Kawneer and Renson together developed a unique solution: the AA 100 Fixscreen Minimal. That innovative system integrates the Renson Fixscreen Minimal Curtain Wall 50 into the Kawneer AA 100 curtain wall.
In Telford (UK), UL Solutions performed a dynamic wind and water test on the curtain wall with screens. This put the correct and reliable integration of the fabric sun protection into the glazed façade surface to the test. The test was conducted up to as much as 11 Beaufort (equivalent for a very heavy storm) with the screen in an open, half-open and closed position. "A performance that guarantees security for all parties involved in a construction project," said Nico Klomp, Managing Director at Kawneer.
"With the introduction of the AA 100 Fixscreen Minimal, there is an answer ready for architects, project consultants and contractors on how to prevent heat stress in buildings in a functional as well as aesthetic way at the same time and how to comply with the Quality Assurance Act," Paul Renson (CEO Renson) also welcomes this joint development.
"Thanks to the successful dynamic test, Kawneer can offer a 10-year storm warranty on the AA 100 Fixscreen Minimal on the attachment of the screen to the curtain wall. In addition, Kawneer offers a system warranty on wind and water tightness as well as surface treatment. In addition, the aesthetic value of the building is preserved and outdoor sunscreens provide significant energy savings," says Klomp. "Both the façade and the blinds are supplied by Kawneer so the warranty is with one party."
Offering total solutions is ingrained in the DNA of both Renson and Kawneer. The cooperation between the companies did not come out of the blue. For example, both parties had previously worked together to perform a wind and water tightness test of the Renson Invisivent Air NL on Kawneer's RT window system. Paul Renson: "At Renson, we pay great attention to innovative solutions with efficient operation and maximum integration into the architectural picture. With partners like Kawneer, we work together on user-friendly and reliable total solutions that meet current and future needs in the building industry."
