The summer of 2024 was all about innovation and knowledge sharing at IGP Benelux BV, part of the Swiss company IGP Powder Coatings. This included IGP On Tour, a roadshow aimed at sharing knowledge about the latest developments in the field of powder coatings. One of the highlights of this tour was the introduction of IGP's latest product innovation: Melted Metal.
"In just eight days, the tour attracted more than 200 visitors, ranging from architects to facade builders and applicators," said Erwin Kleuters, director of IGP Benelux. "These interactive sessions offered participants the chance to learn more about the technical aspects of powder coatings and ask specific questions of IGP's experts."
The IGP On Tour visited several locations, including Roma Benelux, where some 60 dealers from the Netherlands and Belgium gathered for an inspiring day of workshops. "Among other things, participants gained insight into the powder coating production process and the exceptional durability of IGP's HochWetterFest (HWF) grade," says Erwin. "This HWF coating has exceptional weather resistance and scratch resistance, which extends product life and reduces maintenance frequency, lowering both costs and environmental impact."
The roadshow (IGP On Tour) was a great success, reaching some 200 architects, designers and façade builders. During interactive sessions, participants were able to learn more about the technical aspects of powder coatings and ask specific questions of IGP's experts.
A key moment during the roadshow was the presentation of the new Melted Metal effect powder coating. This product offers architects and designers an innovative solution for facade and design applications where both aesthetics and functionality are critical.
"Melted Metal is more than just a visual enhancement," explains Erwin. "It is a pioneering, advanced solution that perfectly mimics the aesthetics of metals, without the use of (semi-)precious metals. The powder coating creates a luxurious metallic look, ranging from gold and copper to polished aluminum and chrome steel."
These effect coatings also meet the highest technical standards. They are based on the proven, super durable base coating IGP-HWFclassic, Series 59, which guarantees long-term color and scratch resistance. The coating meets strict standards such as Qualicoat (Class 2) and AAMA 2604. The innovative Ultra-Thin Pigment (UTP) technology makes it possible to create a sophisticated metallic look with fewer raw materials, contributing to sustainability.
The environmentally friendly composition of Melted Metal also perfectly matches the requirements for certifications within the Green Building label. "Consider energy-efficient production processes, such as lower curing temperatures and the absence of harmful solvents," says Erwin. "These properties make the product an ideal choice for sustainable construction projects."
Erwin cites the renovated station in Groningen as an excellent example of the versatility of Melted Metal. This station, designed by Koen van Velsen Architects, emphasizes sustainability and the use of high-quality materials. Among other things, the metal system ceiling, the roof lights of the platform covers and the line lighting of the station's bicycle parking area are finished in different colors of Melted Metal, creating a dynamic yet timeless look that matches the innovative character of the building."
The station emphasizes durability and high-quality materials. Thanks to its excellent weather resistance and scratch resistance, the coating stays beautiful for a long time, even under heavy use, such as in a busy station.
With Melted Metal, IGP continues to raise the bar with a full focus on façade and architecture. The coating is already being used in several leading projects, and the positive feedback from the market confirms that this is just the beginning. "We are very excited about the future of Melted Metal and the many possibilities for architects and designers," concludes Erwin.
