Checking a facade, here's how to do it

Checking a facade, this is how you do it

In several cases, it is necessary to check a facade. We call this facade inspection or facade examination. This does not mean that there is only one type of inspection, as there are several ways to inspect a facade. For example, facade inspection can be assessing waterproofing or grouting. Or assessing masonry or cavity anchors. Which type of facade inspection is used depends on the purpose. For example, if the client is complaining about problems with moisture in the home. Or when he wants to have a cavity wall inspected.

Thus, inspections always proceed in different ways. Therefore, fewer and fewer companies are using analog forms to complete the inspection. With a digital solution like Incontrol all facade inspections can be found in one app. It is possible to work with so-called templates. These templates are preconceived checklists that can be easily modified. The inspectors complete the checklist and, together with the client, approve the processing of the data.

Here's how the inspection works

So there are different types of inspections. Which facade inspection is used depends on the client's desire. One way to inspect a facade is by making a few small holes in the facade. In this way it can be determined whether the wall is suitable for cavity wall insulation. The same method is also used to check the facade for the presence of construction debris in the cavity wall.

Another way to inspect a facade is by using the endoscope. This is a small camera that is maneuvered through the facade. In this way, it is possible to look inside the facade without causing damage. This is different when assessing masonry. When assessing masonry, part of the facade is first broken off in order to assess the masonry. Then the affected section is rebuilt.

There are several reasons to perform a facade inspection. For example, when post-insulating the cavity wall. Façade inspection is mainly used to find out the cause of moisture in the house. When there are complaints, the quality of masonry or pointing can also be inspected.

Using digital checklists

Facade examination is carried out in several ways. For example, through a structural inspection. This involves first demolishing part of the masonry and then rebuilding it. First, the inspector will come to look at the facade and propose an inspection method. Attached to this inspection method is a certain way of working. This means that the inspector will fill out a form. More and more companies are opting for a digital checklist. This checklist is then carefully completed and, upon approval, signed by the inspector and the client. This way, mistakes can be avoided.

The results of this form are immediately shared with the office. A report is prepared there. Because the data is in the same system, it is easier to evaluate it. Based on this data, a report is prepared. This data is stored centrally in the system, making it easy to incorporate them into the report. This report usually includes pictures and clear conclusions. Then it can be determined what follow-up steps are needed.

This is a different way of working than in the past. Previously, analog forms were mostly checked off. This takes a lot of paper and the chance of getting lost is a lot higher. Moreover, it can be complicated to decipher the inspector's handwriting. By entering all the data immediately, a complete report can be prepared in a much shorter time.
