To meet growing market demand and minimize the environmental impact of its production processes, AGC Glass Europe is launching Low-Carbon Glass, which has a significantly smaller CO2-footprint.
"In 2022 - the year designated by the United Nations as the International Year of Glass - AGC highlighted glass and our passion for this noble material. We also took an important step toward climate neutrality during the past year and are now delighted to close 2022 with the launch of our Low-Carbon Glass, to offer customers glass that - from raw material extraction to final installation - produces over forty percent less CO2 than our standard float glass," said Davide Cappellino, President of AGC Architectural Glass Europe & Americas Company.
To achieve this impressive CO2-reduction, each link in the value chain was closely scrutinized and addressed. This included reducing direct CO2-emissions from glass production processes were reduced and that all CO2-emissions from electricity generation, the supply chain before all processes and other indirect emissions were reduced. AGC's holistic approach to sustainably producing Low-Carbon Glass covers six key areas:
With this intensive process, AGC developed Low-Carbon Planibel Clearlite, CO2-poor float glass whose CO2-footprint with 40% has been reduced, to only 7 kg of CO2 per m² (4 mm thick).
AGC's first Low-Carbon Glass has been successfully produced at its production site in Moustier, Belgium, and is now available and in stock. Starting in 2023, AGC's production site in Seignbouse, France, will also produce Low-Carbon Glass.
Low-Carbon Planibel Clearlite is available for AGC's main functional glazing products:
These new Low-Carbon Glass products offer the same aesthetics, quality and technical performance you have come to expect from AGC's traditional float glass products.
