Because of its strategic and central location - Heerlen is high on the ranking of logistics hotspots in the Netherlands and is the gateway to European markets - Panattoni Netherlands has built a sustainable warehouse. The building totals some 70,000 m2 and includes over 60,000 m2 of warehouse, 6,500 m2 of mezzanine and over 1,600 m2 of office space. Joris Ide - a leading manufacturer and supplier of steel roof and wall systems - supplied the facade panels for this project.
Panattoni Netherlands is part of Panattoni Europe and market leader in industrial real estate in Europe. Panattoni is active in fifteen countries and since 2019 prominent in the Dutch market. The company develops, realizes and manages multifunctional, built-to-suit warehouse projects. All developments have the BREAAM sustainability certificate, are natural gas-free and sustainable materials have been used in the development wherever possible.
"So sustainable," says Willem van Rootselaar, Business Development Manager Benelux and Sales at Joris Ide. "And that in turn fits perfectly with our Planet Passionate program." As a strong, international player in the steel industry, Joris Ide offers various solutions in the field of roof and facade systems for various industries. "With our Planet Passionate program, we are taking a crucial first step in the next phase of our plan to proactively address our planet's key sustainability challenges. For example, we want to significantly reduce our company's carbon footprint and further improve the environmental performance of our products. In this way, we will make a meaningful contribution to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals." Targets have also been set in the area of CO2 emissions: "We are committed to zero CO2 production by 2030 and a reduction of 50% on CO2 intensity on our products by 2030, for example by using better insulation and sources such as solar and rainwater. Here, of course, CO2 emissions will be closely monitored."
"As the largest consumer of raw materials, the construction industry can make a substantial difference to the environment by reusing and recycling products," Willem believes. "Joris Ide has therefore set itself the goal of zero waste to landfill by 2030. With the BES 6001 Very Good certificate, a registration in the NMD with category I branded product cards and an ongoing research on take-back guarantee and reuse of materials, we are making a big step. Detachability and reuse is a real spearhead."
At the future state-of-the-art distribution center, realized by Goldbeck Netherlands, no less than more than 14,000 m2 of blind-fixed wall panels JI Wall 1000VB 100 mm are applied in three different RAL colors. "The color scheme fits well with the high-quality design of this building," says Willem. "Denc worked out the project for the environmental permit and Palazzo, under the direction of Goldbeck, produced an execution-ready design. The panels used are all FM Approval, one of the highest achievable quality marks for risk reduction and loss prevention products, issued by one of the largest insurers worldwide: FM Global."
Both the high-quality product quality, the extensive product range and Joris Ide's Planet Passionate program fit seamlessly with market demand. "We are the one-stop shop where the customer has one point of contact for the entire envelope of the building," says Willem. "Also our new developments such as a carrier panel with a guarantee on the system and the unique profiles from the Joris Ide Façade range contribute to the design and realization of unique and sustainable buildings." Willem points again to Joris Ide's Façade brochure where the complete range of façade products is bundled. "By mixing colors, textures and materials, our high-end façade products create unprecedented design freedom where everything can be personalized perfectly: the possibilities are endless. Be inspired!"
