At Schiphol Airport, a new crossing point where persons
and vehicles are checked by security personnel. What is unique about this project is that it is being built with material from the demolition of three office buildings and three cargo buildings at the airport. The cladding, on the other hand, is new, but here, too, maximum attention is paid to sustainability and circularity thanks to SFS' concealed NV3 mechanical fastening system.
Commissioned by main contractor BAM, IV Totaalbouw completed the facade finish on the new transit station. "We specialize in all-round construction work at airports," says Ivan Oostra of IV Totaalbouw. "In this case, we were responsible for installing about 400 m2 of Rockpanel facade cladding on an HSB substructure. From the specifications, the concealed mechanical NV3 fastening system from SFS was already prescribed. It was our first experience with both the system and SFS, but one that is definitely worth repeating." Ivan especially praises the commitment of SFS and in particular that of Gijs Gooren. "He was always ready for advice and open to feedback."
The NV3 system was delivered virtually plug-and-play. "We shared the contractor's drawings with SFS who then made the wind load calculations and determined the bracket pattern for the cladding based on that. That whole package was sent to the CNC router," Ivan explains. "So for us it was just a matter of placing and setting the aluminum battens, on which we could very easily hang and anchor the cladding. That works really super." Thanks to the mechanical fastening, the NV3 system offers the possibility of exchanging the cladding at a later date or reusing it in its entirety, including the profiles. Circularity at its best! An additional advantage of SFS is also that it is a guaranteed tested facade system. The combination of the NV3 fixing system with Rockpanel has its own unique ETA certification. "And that is of great added value, especially in the complex environments we work in."
The next project at Schiphol, by the way, is already in the pipeline. "Right next to this crossing point there will be another new building in exactly the same finish. That, of course, we will also carry out with SFS' concealed mechanical NV3 fastening system."
