Ontwerper Floris Schoonderbeek presenteert, van 17 oktober 2020 tot februari 2021, vijf baanbrekende, natuur-inclusieve en routine veranderende producten in de Kazerne – Home of Design, Eindhoven. De voorlopige uitkomst van zijn experimentele Fieldstation roadtrips.
Rond zijn mobiele studio nodigde Floris andere denkers en doeners uit om spelenderwijs producten te realiseren die bijdragen aan een kwalitatief hoogwaardig bestaan in harmonie met de natuur. Zoeken, ervaren, proberen. Beleving is elementair om een duurzame gedragsverandering te bewerkstelligen. Vanuit de overtuiging dat een nieuwe notie over een rijk bestaan essentieel is voelt Floris de urgentie om producten te ontwikkelen die nieuwe gewoontes en bevindingen in zich dragen.
Zo wordt een regenton niet alleen een functioneel duurzaam object, maar ook een les in (regen)watergebruik. En laat de Botanictub zien hoe je rust en luxe kunt ervaren in een natuurlijke omgeving, waarbij je ondertussen een positieve impact hebt op die omgeving. Kortom: een rijk leven door en in balans met de natuur.
Met veel enthousiasme en interesse – vanuit het vakgebied en zelfs vanuit wethouders en ministers -is de expositie tijdens de Dutch Design Week van start gegaan. Floris geeft vanuit Eindhoven op afspraak persoonlijke (virtuele) tours over de expositie.

The Sunstove is a (solar) cooker, light and table in one. Functional yet beautiful. Outdoor cooking in harmony with nature, by using the sun as a heat source for cooking. Windlights are windmills where the windmill is also the light fixture. We are used to consume energy on demand, while it would help our energy issues if we started using energy when nature makes it available to us. The Windlights will therefor only be illuminated if there is enough wind to supply the energy required for the lighting.

The Airsteamers are clean bbq stoves for a new and sustainable way of outdoor cooking. The clean and fast burning rocketstoves enable cooking directly in the (filtered) airstream of the fire. Raintap collects and activates the use of rainwater. The tap(s), foot pump and sink make it a clever water station and transforms it from a rain barrel, to a (hand) washing station, to a compact outdoor kitchen. Raintap demonstrates how valuable rainwater is, and how we can really start to appreciate rainwater. It raises the awareness of the importance of absorbing and retaining rainwater and the need for solutions to fight climate change. The Raintap can be upgraded with an extra drinkwater tap – making it an even more functional water station or outdoor kitchen.

The Fieldstation is the mobile workshop of Studio Floris Schoonderbeek. The self-sufficient Fieldstation facilitates a way of working aimed at searching, experiencing, experimenting and collaboration. Every roadtrip it can be equipped with different tools. And so it easily transforms from a family camper van, to a field kitchen, to a workshop, to an expedition camp. The Fieldstation is all about connecting with the surroundings, and so – besides wide-opening doors for a panoramic view – it has an outdoor workspace, kitchen and shower.
